Chlorinated polypropylene is a thermoplastic resin obtained by the chlorination modification of polypropylene. It appears as white irregular solid, white or light yellow powder, or yellowish or light yellow granules. Chlorinated polypropylene is non-toxic and can be dissolved in solvents such as halogenated hydrocarbons and toluene. Depending on the chlorine content, its melting point is generally between 80-160°C, and the decomposition temperature is between 70-160°C. Products with low chlorine content begin to decompose slowly above 40°C, and the rate of decomposition is extremely fast above 70°C. It has a wide range of applications in the coatings (mainly composite inks) and adhesives industries.

Application

Due to the excellent adhesion of Chlorinated Polypropylene (CPP) to polypropylene surfaces and good adhesion to various materials such as polyethylene, paper, and lead film, coupled with its good hardness, wear resistance, salt liquor resistance, and aging resistance, it is widely used in the printing ink, plastic, and metal adhesive industries. In particular, it is extensively used in the production of printing inks of packaging industry, which for printing double-layer PP film, PP film-paper, PP film-aluminum, and other composite materials. Additionally, it has some applications in pigment carriers for coatings and waterproofing agents. Containing chlorine atoms on the molecular chain, chlorinated polypropylene also has some applications as a flame retardant.
